Fostering flexibility, inclusion and diversity

Fostering flexibility, inclusion and diversity

At Suncorp we build inclusion by providing an environment where everyone is able to be themselves and feel valued, involved and respected for their perspectives and contribution.

Suncorp believes our people will be at their best when our workforce is as diverse, talented and passionate as the communities we serve. That means a workforce that feels included, valued and connected regardless of gender, marital or family status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disabilities, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural background, socio-economic background, perspective and experience.

#Diversity and Inclusion Plan

At Suncorp we recognise that each of our employees has a unique experience of intersectional identities, which may include identifying with groups that have been historically marginalised or discriminated against. We therefore place a high priority on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and interventions,
which includes embedding systems and processes that help to remove bias and ensure a more equitable experience for all staff, regardless of their diverse identities, experiences and requirements.

Gender equality

Suncorp takes pride in our work to ensure our incredibly talented women employees are represented at leadership level and currently has 54% women in leadership roles.

We educate our leaders to ensure gender bias is removed from recruitment and people practices, including performance reviews, promotions and access to policies such as parental leave or flexible working arrangements.

Suncorp also provides learning and coaching for women to develop and strengthen their career resilience skills through the Accelerate Women in Leadership program. This helps Suncorp grow our pipeline of female leadership talent.

Gender pay equity

Following ongoing role pay equity and gender pay equity gap analysis conducted across the organisation, Suncorp has set a target to reduce the gender pay gap by five percentage points over five years. Suncorp actively reviews role pay equity throughout the year and actions any issues identified through our remuneration review process.

Age diversity

Suncorp supports our people aged 50 years and over through the Envisage program, which helps them make positive choices about planning the next phase of their lives and careers. Participants are encouraged to take a holistic view in planning for the future by focusing on career, identity, wellbeing, finances and relationships.

Suncorp also supports leaders through the Navigate program, which is designed to help leaders build capability so they can inclusively lead an age diverse workforce. This is through understanding the risks, challenges and opportunities of an ageing workforce and explores practical skills for supporting work-life balance, tailored development, knowledge transfer, wellbeing, mentoring and recognition.

First Nations commitment

Our reconciliation journey starts with our people, work is continuing to understand the unique experiences of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and Māori and Pasifika peoples employees.

Suncorp Group is driving employment opportunities for First Nations Australians, and Māori and Pasifika peoples in Aotearoa (New Zealand), starting with action at the student level.

Our partnerships with two leading education not-for-profit organisations, TupuToa in New Zealand and Career Trackers in Australia, broadens our access to talented students and future leaders, and increases their visibility of and accessibility to the corporate world.

#Flexibility, the Suncorp way

Suncorp has always valued flexibility, but the past few years have shown us that flexibility must be a cornerstone of how we work moving forward. This acknowledges the shift that every one of our team members has gone through after working through the pandemic, including preferences for where we work and the evolution of the way we work. We have empowered our people to determine their own flexible work style to deliver their best work, in the framework of considering the needs of our customers, teams and other stakeholders.
